It’s time for the best girls volleyball teams in the state to converge on the Denver Coliseum as the state tournament brackets were released by CHSAA on Sunday.

Each tournament consists of a 12-team field and play will begin on Thursday at 8 a.m. at the Coliseum.

Class 5A

Valor Christian has put together a solid 2023 campaign and takes the No. 1 seed in the 5A bracket. Chaparral, Rock Canyon and Legend also received byes to begin their weekends.

First round matchups for 5A:

  • (5) Mountain Vista vs. (12) Cherry Creek
  • (6) Pine Creek vs. (11) Ralston Valley
  • (7) Fossil Ridge vs. (10) Castle View
  • (8) Grandview vs. (9) Pueblo West

Class 4A

It’s a throwback year as Lewis-Palmer rakes the top seed in the 4A field. The Rangers haven’t captured a state volleyball championship since 2019. That five-set win over Palmer Ridge completed a run of six state titles in seven years. Windsor, Palmer Ridge and two-time defending champion Thompson Valley are the other teams who received a first-round bye.

  • (6) Palisade vs. (11) Niwot
  • (7) Eagle Valley vs. (10) The Classical Academy
  • (8) Holy Family vs. (9) Cheyenne Mountain

Class 3A

Defending 3A champion Platte Valley will head to the Coliseum as the top seed in the field. The Broncos already have more volleyball championships than any school in state history with 15 and are looking to add a 16th to the shelf. Jefferson Academy, Eaton and Delta received byes and await the winners of the early matches.

  • (6) Liberty Common vs. (11) University
  • (7) Resurrection Christian vs. (10) Colorado Springs Christian
  • (8) Centauri vs. (9) Lamar

Class 2A

Wiggins went 21-4 leading up to the state tournament and that’s good enough to be the top team on the 2A bracket. The Tigers won the 2020 state title (that was played in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and would love to claim a second title in four years. Rye, defending champion Sedgwick County and Mancos are the other top seeds in the 2A tournament.

  • (6) Strasburg vs. (11) Burlington
  • (7) Swink vs. (10) Limon
  • (8) Ignacio vs. (9) Meeker

Class 1A

Merino has been the dominant program in 1A since the 2020 season and the Rams are looking strong enough to make a run at a fourth consecutive state title. Stratton, McClave and Simla round out the top four on the bracket and await the results of the morning matches.
