Now that we have the official seeds and pairings for the eight district tournaments, we can again start looking ahead to regional tournament play in Class 1A Girls.  The top two seeds advance from Districts 1 and 7 while the remaining six brackets each sending their top three teams to regionals.
For our latest scenario, we are simply projecting regional brackets on if the top seeds from each district advance.  It likely won’t happen as upsets occur in almost every round every year but for this purpose, we’ll draw the district results if higher seeds win all the games.
In that case, Region 1 is in this order as the top two teams from Districts 1 and 7 simply cross bracket with winners advancing to the state tournament.

REGION 1

  • DeBeque vs Elbert
  • Genoa Hugo vs North Park

REGION 2

RPI will be used to seed the bracket with teams possibly moved around to avoid district or league pairings in the opening round.  Our bracket is laid out based on RPI from February 18th but that too will change through the week.  The top three seeds earn first round byes and play winners from day one in the regional finals.  Three winners from Saturday advance to state.
RPI Standings

  1. Briggsdale
  2. Fleming
  3. Haxtun
  4. Longmont Christian
  5. Lone Star
  6. Shining Mountain
  7. Belleview Christian
  8. Arickaree/Woodlin
  9. Cornerstone Christian

Pairings

  • #6 Shining Mountain vs #7 Arickaree/Woodlin — winner plays #1 Briggsdale
  • #5 Lone Star vs #8 Belleview Christian — winner plays #2 Fleming
  • #4 Longmont Christian vs #9 Cornerstone Christian — winner plays #3 Haxtun

Note:  We exchanged Arickaree/Woodlin and Belleview Christian at 7-8 to avoid first round pairings with district opponents.

REGION 3

Seeding is different as the setup prevents more than one team from any district being placed in a single pod.  So each three team group will include one team from District 2, another from District 3 and a third from District 6.  This design avoids any district rematches in the regional round.  District champs are also guaranteed a first-round bye.  Those teams are first seeded in order by RPI and placed in the bracket.
Then the second-place teams are ranked in order by RPI and are placed in the bracket.  The lowest seeded runner-up is placed in the bracket with the highest ranked champ not from the same district.  Then the third place teams are easily paced to avoid teams from the same district in the same pod.
Champions (RPI)

  1. Kit Carson
  2. South Baca
  3. Sangre De Cristo

Runner-up teams (RPI)

  1. Springfield
  2. Cotopaxi
  3. McClave

Third place teams

  1. Wiley
  2. Eads
  3. Sierra Grande

Pairings

  • Pod A:  Cotopaxi vs Wiley (winner plays #1 Kit Carson)
  • Pod B:  McClave vs Sierra Grande (winner plays #2 South Baca)
  • Pod C:  Springfield vs Eads (winner plays #3 Sangre De Cristo)

Notes:  Kit Carson is the top ranked team in the RPI so they’re #1 in the bracket with South Baca then in Pod B and Sangre De Cristo in Pod C.  McClave is the lowest rated team of the runner-up clubs so they’re placed against the highest ranked champion not from their district (South Baca).  Then Cotopaxi is the next lowest and placed with Kit Carson with Springfield then going into Pod C with Sangre De Cristo.  Third place teams are then placed to pair up with two teams not from their district.
