UPDATE: New RPI standings were issued at 7:00am Sunday morning but did not affect our projections below.
Since RPI numbers have been updated following the finish of the 2A boys’ basketball district tournaments, we can now start projecting regional tournament brackets. The eight district champions earn the right to play at home and will be seeded one through eight based on RPI. The remaining qualifiers will then be seeded 9-32 with teams slotted from 25-32 possibly moved for travel concerns.
Our projections are based on RPI standings posted at 8:15pm on February 29th. Official pairings will be announced on Sunday by CHSAA. Also note that the bracket will be reseeded before state once the eight qualifiers are determined. At that time, more criteria other than RPI can be used to place teams in the bracket.
The first step in laying out the bracket is determining the order of the eight district champions.
- Limon
- Highland
- Sanford
- Mancos
- Fowler
- Wray
- Peyton
- Vail Mountain
Now we list the remaining qualifiers from across the various districts. District 5 sends five teams and District 3 sends three with the remaining brackets qualifying their top four. We do not list the district champions here but place teams in order of district finish.
Other Qualifiers
- District 1: Crested Butte, Center, Del Norte
- District 2: Holyoke, Yuma, Sedgwick County
- District 3: Ignacio, Telluride
- District 4: Denver Christian, Burlington, Clear Creek

- District 6: Holly, Crowley County, Hoehne
- District 7: Heritage Christian, Dawson, Dayspring Christian
- District 8: Dolores Huerta, Calhan, Thomas MacLaren.

#25 | Meeker (moved) |
#9 | Yuma |
#24 | Clear Creek |
The only conference conflict is found in Region 8 where Vail Mountain and Meeker are placed together in the first round. That would be a rematch of the District 5 championship game. Normally a team would move up or down one spot but since another Western Slope team (Plateau Valley) is #26, a third team such as #27 Thomas MacLaren may be put into the picture. If Thomas MacLaren is bumped to #25 with Meeker and Plateau Valley both dropping one spot, then you have Plateau Valley traveling all the way to Wray for a first-round game. The easier side may be to flip to Meeker and #24 Clear Creek. Both teams remain in the same region but the move avoids a first-round district pairing.
