Eight days remain in the 2A girls’ basketball regular season so we can now get a good idea of where teams will be placed in the district tournament.  The projections below are based on CURRENT league and RPI standings with notes on each on how the bracket will be determined.
These are for projections only and the order could obviously could obviously change as league order and RPI will continue to change with more games played.  The regular season ends on February 22nd.

District #1

  1. Del Norte
  2. Sanford
  3. Sargent
  4. Center
  5. South Park
  6. Custer County

NOTES:  Conference standings from the Southern Peaks are used to seed the district tournament.  Several teams play each other twice but only one game counts in the standings so we’re trying to clarify which contests actually count to the district bracket but we believe this is the proper order.  Custer County and South Park have yet to play and that game could determine fifth and sixth.

District #2 (Updated)

  1. Holyoke
  2. Yuma
  3. Sedgwick County
  4. Wray
  5. Wiggins
  6. Akron

NOTES:  Conference standings from the Lower Platte are used to seed the bracket.  Yuma, Wray and Sedgwick County are all tied for second place so a point system was used to break the logjam.  The seeds were based on point differential in the head-to-head matchup so Yuma was #3, Wray #1 and Sedgwick County -4.  Once the three-way tie is broken, the two teams remaining are then separated by head-to-head and Sedgwick County beat Wray.

District #3

  1. Ignacio
  2. Telluride
  3. Dolores
  4. Ridgway
  5. Mancos

NOTES:  Conference standings from the San Juan are used to seed the bracket.  Dolores and Ridgway are tied for third but the Bears have the tiebreaker due to a win over the Demons earlier this year.  They play a second time on the 22nd.

District #4

  1. Limon
  2. Denver Christian
  3. Lotus School
  4. Byers
  5. Burlington
  6. Platte Canyon
  7. Clear Creek
  8. Front Range Christian
  9. Golden View Classical

NOTES:  RPI standings are used to the seed the bracket but if head to head results could come into play if the two squads are very close in those standings.  The only place where that could come into play involves Clear Creek and Front Range Range Christian as they are #52 and #53 in RPI.  They have played with Clear Creek getting the win so they would remain one spot ahead in the seeding order.

District #5

  1. Meeker
  2. Hotchkiss
  3. Soroco
  4. Hayden
  5. Plateau Valley
  6. Rangely
  7. Paonia
  8. West Grand
  9. Vail Christian
  10. Caprock Academy

NOTES:  Conference standings from the Western Slope are used to seed the bracket.  Spots one and two could change on Friday as Hotchkiss moves ahead if they beat Meeker.  Soroco is tied with Hayden and Plateau Valley in third place.  The Rams could win that spot by beating Plateau Valley this week since they have a win over Hayden as well.  We put Hayden ahead of Plateau Valley since they won the head-to-head battle.  West Grand and Vail Christian each have six losses but we move the Mustangs to six since they beat the Saints in league play.

District #6

Western Division

  1. Rye
  2. Hoehne
  3. Fowler
  4. Swallows Charter
  5. John Mall

Eastern Division

  1. Rocky Ford
  2. Swink
  3. Holly
  4. Crowley County
  5. Las Animas

NOTES:  Division standings from the Santa Fe conference determine the seed order.  The teams are separated enough in each division so changes are not likely.  Rye and Rocky Ford meet next Tuesday to determine the overall regular season champion as both are unbeaten against league rivals.

District #7

  1. Heritage Christian
  2. Dawson
  3. Gilpin County
  4. Union Colony Prep
  5. Lyons
  6. Highland
  7. Dayspring Christian
  8. Nederland
  9. Loveland Classical

NOTES:  Conference standings from the Mile High are used to seed the bracket.  Gilpin County and Union Colony have the same number of losses but Gilpin has the tiebreaker on head-to-head results.  Lyons and Highland also share the same number of losses but they don’t play until next week so that order could change as well.

District #8

  1. Colorado Springs School
  2. Simla
  3. Peyton
  4. Dolores Huerta
  5. Calhan
  6. Fountain Valley
  7. Miami Yoder
  8. Thomas MacLaren

NOTES:  Conference standings from the Black Forest are used to seed the tournament.  Simla and Colorado Springs School play next week to determine the championshp as both remain unbeaten in the conference.  We placed the Kodiaks at #1 since they have the higher RPI.  Peyton and Dolores Huerta also play this weekend (Friday) so that tie will be broken but the Panthers are favored.
