One major change can be found in our 2A girls’ basketball post-season projections for this week.  We moved Peyton into the district 8 champions role ahead of Simla since they beat the Cubs head to head last week.  The remaining seven district champions from last week remain intact.  But there are changes to spots 9-32 as RPI continues to move teams up and down a few spots.
One addition to our report this week will be a podcast later on Tuesday as use our pairings to select state tournament qualifiers in Classes 1A-2A-3A.  The audio report will be available later on the website.
To being the post-season projections for the week, we select district champions and then remaining qualifiers in each bracket.  Six districts send their top four qualifiers to the regional round.  The exceptions are District 3 which sends three teams and District 5 which will advance their top five.

District champions

  1. Limon
  2. Del Norte
  3. Heritage Christian
  4. Swink
  5. Yuma

Order behind the district champions is that not important as teams are placed in the bracket based on RPI.  The remaining qualifiers, based on RPI from February 5th, are in this order and please note that teams could be shifted up or down one or two spots to avoid district pairings in the opening round.
Remaining Qualifiers

  1. Wray
  2. Soroco
  3. Simla
  4. Holyoke
  5. Rye
  6. Sanford
  7. Dawson
  8. Holly

Quite a few teams were moved to avoid district pairings in round one.  We exchanged Center and Ridgway in spots 31 and 32 to avoid Center being placed with Del Norte and we did the same with Calhan and Denver Christian at numbers 21 and 22 to prevent Calhan from playing Simla in the opening game.  Then we moved Denver Christian again to #23 and Vail Christian up to #22 so the Saints would not be paired with Soroco in the first round.
With that in mind, we produce our regional tournament brackets.  Once eight regional champions are crowned, the bracket will be reseeded based again on RPI before the state tournament opens.
