The second week of boys’ basketball in January brings with it a good schedule of contests. Conference schedules are underway and the division shapes up to feature several good races.
Ralston Valley – Golden
5A Ralston Valley (8-1) overwhelmed Golden (6-3) in a 73-57 win. Golden’s star, freshman Alan Acevedo, exited with a left leg injury in the third quarter, per Ryan Wesley of Prep Hoops, and the Mustangs ran away with the game after that.
Golden will face Littleton on Thursday and Ralston Valley will travel to Legend, also on Thursday.

There are 4 Tri-Valley games in the Top 10 so we are grouping these together and take a look at the stats from each team as well as how they’ve done so far this winter and their matchups this week.
Mead (6-1, 1-0)
Best Wins: Longmont, Greeley West
Losses: Palmer
The Mavs only loss came in the season opener to 5A Palmer in what is best described as a track meet – the final was 94-91 in overtime. Mead had five players in double digits but only had seven who scored. Both teams hit over 10 threes apiece in the contest.
Since then, they’ve shown the ability to win shootouts or lower scoring defensive battles. Mead dropped 101 on Greeley West but only scored 51 in an impressive road win over Longmont, and hasn’t been significantly challenged since the Longmont game.
