Class 4A regional wrestling tournaments are on tap this weekend with the top four wrestlers in each weight class from each bracket moving on to the state tournament. Tim Yount with On the Mat provides a breakdown of where top 10 wrestlers will be headed.
Depth wise, the West region is loaded as five of the top ten wrestlers are scheduled to compete in both 145 and 182 pounds. In-between is the 160 where six of the top ten wrestlers according to On the Mat will battle. In each case, only four wrestlers can advance to state.
Quality wise, the 132 pound class in the 4A Metro features the top three individuals in the same bracket. Four of the top seven will battle at 113. In the North tournament, the 160 pound class has just two ranked wrestlers in the field but they’re rated 1-2 by On the Mat.
Concerning the East regional, the most competitive weight could be at 138 where the top two and three of the top five overall are entered.
