Thought it might be fun to make a comparison of new boys’ basketball rankings released today by CHSAA to official RPI standings also posted on Monday morning.  A few teams hold down the exact same spot in each sets of rankings, a few others are very close and there are some wide gaps as expected.  In reviewing the numbers, we looked at the top 20 in each poll.
To start with there are eight teams statewide that are ranked in the very same spot in both polls:

  • 1A: DeBeque – #1
  • 1A: Briggsdale – #5
  • 1A: Cheraw – #16
  • 2A: Vail Christian – #9
  • 3A: Faith Christian – #5
  • 4A: Silver Creek – #20
  • 4A: Mead – #2
  • 5A: Rangeview – #1

There’s a much longer list of teams that are just one spot away in the two sets of rankings:

TEAM CLASS RPI CHSAA

Ouray 1A 9 10
Longmont Christian 1A 10 11

Highland 2A 2 1
Denver Christian 2A 4 3
Limon 2A 3 4
Dawson 2A 17 16
Resurrection Christian 3A 2 1
Eaton 3A 9 8

Montrose 4A 9 10
Eaglecrest 5A 2 3
Columbine 5A 9 8
Pine Creek 5A 11 10

Just three teams ranked in the top 20 of RPI did not receive any votes in the most recent coaches poll from CHSAA

  • 3A: Aspen – 13th in RPI
  • 3A: Coal Ridge – 15th in RPI
  • 5A: Horizon – 14th in RPI

And to close, we list the 13 teams with a discrepancy of at least 10 positions to the two polls.  We list the teams, the rankings in each poll and the difference in placement.
