Boys Top 10

Twenty top 10 ballclubs step on the basketball court today but only two collide head-to-head.  That game takes place in the extreme Southeast corner of the state as #2 Holly entertains #8 Fowler in a key Santa Fe League game.  It’s only the first week back from the break but the outcome of this game could very well decide the league champion.  It’s the only regular season meeting and they appear to be the best two teams in the conference.

Moving up to Class 5A, two interesting battles between #9 Columbine-Regis and #6 ThunderRidge-George Washington.  The first involves a role reversal as Regis is normally the ranked team and state championship contender while Columbine is on the outside the polls.  This year, the Rebels have played very well while the Raiders have been inconsistent.  ThunderRidge and George Washington feature two of the most tradition rich programs in Colorado and the winner will get a leg up in post-season bracketing.

In addition, there are two nice matchups in the Centennial between #3 Smoky Hill – Cherry Creek and #5 Grandview – Overland.

In Class 4A, #8 Centaurus has an interesting test against visiting Pueblo South and #10 Mead could be in for a battle with Windsor.  In Class 3A, #10 Montezuma Cortez looks to finish off back-to-back wins over local rivals.  The Panthers moved to 7-0 with Friday’s win over Ignacio and today they meet Durango as part of the Southwest Classic.
