Maybe the focus of the Friday boys basketball schedule can be found in the 5A ranks where play opens in the Continental league.  That conference features five ranked teams and a sixth that has appeared in the top 10 this season.  Those six clubs meet in three very attractive league opening contests tonight.

Around the state, Wray and Holyoke collide in a 2A top 10.  Wray won the non-conference meeting between the two last month and the winner of this one hopes to challenge top ranked Yuma for the Lower Platte title.  #8 Vail Mountain also goes to Hayden for a prep game ahead of tomorrow’s challenge with #9 Caprock Academy.

In Class 3A, #8 University is coming off a conference opening loss at Brush on Tuesday and now heads east again to challenge 2nd ranked Sterling.  The Tigers are unbeaten against Colorado teams and easily rolled Strasburg in their league opener three nights ago.  University hopes to get back leading scorer Tayt Chacon who has missed the last three games due to injury.

Also in 3A, #7 Centauri begins a difficult two day stretch.  Up tonight is the long road trip to Montezuma Cortez where they must quickly return home to host top ranked St Mary’s on Saturday.

In Class 4A, #6 Green Mountain was upset by Golden earlier this week and looks to rebound at home against Evergreen.
