Returning finalists Dayspring Christian and Yuma both return a good amount of talent from their 2016 squads.  Katie Kurz led Dayspring Christian to their first ever state volleyball championship with a four-set win over the Indians.  Chasey Blach helped Yuma gain a third consecutive appearance in a state final.  Shaelyn Walton of Hoehne and Jerraldawn Rector of Simla are also coming off solid junior years in leading their teams to the Denver Coliseum as well.
 

FIRST TEAM

Katie Kurz — Dayspring Christian

  • Led Eagles to a perfect 29-0 season
  • Led team with 434 kills which included a 53 percent kill rate
  • Led club with 77 aces and 298 diggs
  • Eagles lost just 12 sets during the entire 2016 season including five at the state tournament

Shaelyn Walton — Hoehne

  • Helped lead the Farmers into state semifinals where they lost to Yuma in 3 sets
  • Topped team with 333 kills
  • Leads a list of five returnees who all recorded at least 105 kills last season
  • Led Farmers with 289 blocks and was second in aces with 43

 

SECOND TEAM

Chasey Blach — Yuma

  • Second on team in kills as a sophomore with 316
  • Improved from 63 kills during her freshman season
  • Easily led squad with 85 blocks — next on the list was 47

Jerraldawn Rector — Simla

  • Registered a team best 390 kills as a junior
  • Needs only 213 kills as a senior to reach 1,500 for career
  • Is one of six of the top seven hitters from last season returning in 2017
  • Led team with 42 aces and 57 blocks this season
