Colorado’s home run leader, Discovery Canyon catcher Cole Teltschik, homered four more times over the past five days, pushing his season total to 10.
The Missouri State commit went deep twice in an 11-4 win over The Classical Academy on Saturday, then added more in wins over Liberty on Monday and Lewis-Palmer on Thursday.
The senior finished with nine home runs last spring — seven behind the state’s 2025 leader, TCA graduate Zack Hale, who had 17.
Before Saturday’s four-hit, two-homer performance, Teltschik had gone six games without one. His blast Thursday was his fourth in four games and it extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Teltschik now ranks in the top 10 nationally in slugging percentage (1.391), alongside another Colorado standout, Peyton’s Bryce Love (1.432), who leads the country in batting average (.841) and on-base percentage (.875).
The senior’s 10 homers in 17 games for the Thunder, meanwhile, puts him at 0.59 per game — the best rate in the country.
Discovery Canyon (14-3, 4-2 4A Pikes Peak League) has won seven straight and swept its last two league series (two games each).
The 4A Pikes Peak League leads this week’s baseball notebook as we dive into a few races across the 5A and 4A classifications.
Class 4A Pikes Peak League
League title contenders: Lutheran (12-6, 5-1), Cheyenne Mountain (10-4, 5-1), Discovery Canyon (14-3, 4-2).
Discovery Canyon would appreciate it if Cheyenne Mountain sweeps its two-game series against Lutheran next Tuesday and Thursday.
If that happens, the Thunder would control their own destiny in pursuit of the program’s first league title.
As for stats: while Teltschik leads the league in most offensive categories, Palmer Ridge sophomore Jameson Wheeler has arguably been the Pikes Peak League’s top pitcher, posting a 2.43 ERA across 23 innings.
Class 5A/4A Granite Peaks League
League title contenders: Broomfield (14-3, 8-0), Erie (16-2, 8-1), Fairview (11-5, 7-1), Legacy (10-5, 7-2).
Maddox Burnett’s gem on the mound in a 1-0 win against Legacy on Thursday — 5 2/3 scoreless innings — tightened the top of the league standings.
Meanwhile, Broomfield beat Niwot 12-2 for its 10th straight win. Bryce Jackson homered and drove in four runs.
The Eagles beat Erie earlier this month and will face both Legacy (10:30 a.m.) and Fairview (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday. The Knights, winners of six straight, could take the league lead with a win.
5A/4A Continental League
League title contenders: Regis Jesuit (12-3, 4-0), Mountain Vista (8-9, 4-1), Chaparral (12-5, 4-1), Heritage (8-7-1, 3-1).
Regis Jesuit’s offense continued its surge in a 17-4 win at Douglas County on Monday. Eli Shappee and Deion Cesario-Scott each homered, giving the Raiders 14 on the season.
On Friday, the 5A No. 1 Raiders travel to face No. 6 Chaparral in a game with major implications for the league standings and state rankings.
The Wolverines walked off Castle View 2-1 in eight innings Thursday after Max Schwartz scored on a passed ball.
5A Jeffco League
League title contenders: Arvada West (14-3, 6-0), Chatfield (10-8, 6-1), Valor Christian (10-7, 6-1), Ralston Valley (12-4, 3-2).
Arvada West is in a strong position. The Wildcats already swept Ralston Valley earlier this month and should have an advantage on the mound the rest of the way, boasting arguably the state’s top 1-2 pitching duo in Cooper Vais (0.24 ERA in 29 1/3 innings) and Brayden Reiner (1.06 ERA in 26 1/3).
Valor Christian and Chatfield, meanwhile, split last week.
This week, Valor Christian and Ralston Valley will be a key series to watch (April 28 and 30). Behind Arvada West’s duo are Ralston Valley’s Mason Gilbreath (2.80 ERA in 20 IP) and Valor Christian’s Luke Blasco (2.80 ERA in 15 IP).
