Colorado Preps has released their last volleyball polls of the 2017 season.  Come next weekend, all classes will be involved in playoff action and we’ll let the results tell the story the rest of the way.
Very little movement in any of the polls this week as most of the ranked teams were winners through the entire week.  There’s just two newcomers this week as Faith Christian and Dove Creek join the 3A and 1A polls respectively.

CLASS 5A

  1. Castle View (15-2)
  2. Fruita Monument (17-1)
  3. Rock Canyon (14-3)
  4. Chaparral (13-4)
  5. Mountain Vista (13-3)
  6. Rocky Mountain (17-1)
  7. Fossil Ridge (15-3)
  8. Highlands Ranch (15-2)
  9. Fort Collins (14-2)
  10. Cherry Creek (17-2)

OTHERS:  Coronado (16-2), Chatfield (15-3), Legend (11-6), Denver East (12-5)
NOTES:  Teams inside the Continental continue to beat up on one another making the 5A rankings extremely difficult.  This past week Chaparral beat Mountain Vista and that result caused some movement at the top.  The Golden Eagles fell from second to fifth while Fruita Monument, Rock Canyon and Chaparral all moved up.  Mountain Vista though also beat Highlands Ranch so the Falcons dropped from sixth to eighth this week.  Rocky Mountain and Fossil Ridge both moved up one position.

CLASS 4A

  1. Lewis Palmer (19-0)
  2. Holy Family (19-2)
  3. Valor Christian (14-3)
  4. Pueblo West (16-2)
  5. Palmer Ridge (17-2)
  6. Niwot (16-2)
  7. Longmont (17-2)
  8. D’Evelyn (15-1)
  9. Thomas Jefferson (13-4)
  10. Glenwood Springs (16-2)

OTHERS:  Windsor (12-6), Pueblo County (15-3), Eagle Valley (13-6), Evergreen (12-6)
NOTES:  Pueblo West was upset in five sets by Liberty on Saturday so the Cyclones lost a bit of ground this week; one spot to fourth.  Valor Christian replaced them in the third position.  Thomas Jefferson lost to Denver East in the City League championship match so the Spartans tumbled to ninth this week.  Their loss allowed Palmer Ridge, Niwot, Longmont and D’Evelyn to bump up.  We also flip-flopped Niwot and Longmont this week putting the Cougars ahead of the Trojans.  The rivals split two conference matches but Niwot ended with the league championship.

CLASS 3A

  1. Eaton (18-1)
  2. University (15-3)
  3. Centauri (19-0)
  4. Lutheran (14-3)
  5. Valley (13-6)
  6. Middle Park (17-2)
  7. Coal Ridge (17-1)
  8. Buena Vista (15-2)
  9. Lamar (19-2)
  10. Faith Christian (14-3)

OTHERS:  Resurrection Christian (12-6), Weld Central (16-4), Bennett (16-3), Bayfield (12-6), Colorado Academy (12-6), Prospect Ridge (14-3), Machebeuf (14-4), Delta (14-5)
NOTES:  Lutheran, Resurrection Christian and Valley were three teams that suffered losses last week but only two are in different positions this week.  We kept Valley number five as their loss came against top ranked Eaton and they pushed the Reds to five sets.  Lutheran lost a league match to Machebeuf and dropped from third to fourth this week; allowing Centauri to move into the top three.  Resurrection Christian was 10th last week but a loss to 2A Dayspring Christian cost the Cougars a top ten position.  They were replaced by Faith Christian who meets Lutheran for the Metro crown on Tuesday.

CLASS 2A

  1. Yuma (18-1)
  2. Lyons (15-4)
  3. Union Colony Prep (16-3)
  4. Dayspring Christian (17-2)
  5. Hoehne (16-3)
  6. Denver Christian (16-3)
  7. Simla (17-2)
  8. Dolores (18-1)
  9. Haxtun (15-3)
  10. Swink (16-3)

OTHERS:  Rangely (16-3), Sargent (15-4), Wiggins (15-4), Vail Mountain (14-4), Meeker (16-3), Fowler (14-5), Dawson (14-5), Ridgway (13-5)
NOTES:  No ranked team lost last week so the order is the same as the previous poll.  With the post-season underway this week, many eyes will be on District 7 where Lyons, Union Colony Prep and Dayspring Christian will battle for a regional tournament berth but will see challenges from Dawson, Highland and Clear Creek which comes in from the 3A Frontier.  Denver Christian is also a member of the Mile-High league but they move to District five for the playoffs where they will face the likes of Limon, Burlington and Byers.

CLASS 1A

  1. Kit Carson (19-0)
  2. Fleming (18-1)
  3. La Veta (19-0)
  4. McClave (15-4)
  5. Wiley (15-3)
  6. Holly (15-4)
  7. Otis (15-4)
  8. Briggsdale (15-4)
  9. Flagler (13-6)
  10. Dove Creek (13-6)

OTHERS:  Prairie (10-9), Belleview Christian (18-1), Pikes Peak Christian (15-3), Sangre De Cristo (14-5), Creede (13-5), Weldon Valley (10-8)
NOTES:  Minor changes this week as Holly lost two spots following a five-set loss to McClave.  The Wildcats have also split two matches with Wiley so spots four through six are likely interchangeable.  Dove Creek joins the rankings to replace Prairie.  The Mustangs won two high level matches in the prior week to re-enter the rankings but then lost twice this past two week to lose their position.  The top three teams remain unchanged with Otis, Briggsdale and Flagler also holding steady in their spots.
