Fleming took home the championship at the Kit Carson volleyball tournament Saturday as the Wildcats downed Wiggins 3-2 in a great finals match.  Fleming trailed 0-2 but the rallied to win the final three sets for the exciting five set victory.  The Wildcats finished second in Class 1A last May with Wiggins seeing their first court action since winning the 2A championship.

The match wrapped up a very good six team tournament that featured five teams ranked in the preseason top ten of their respective class.  #3 Fleming swept Akron and #2 Simla on their way to the final while #3 Wiggins stuffed #5 Yuma and #8 Kit Carson in their two pool matches.

Colorado Preps spoke with both coaches from the state championship match.

In other volleyball action of note, #9 Sedgwick County (2A) downed a pair of 1A ranked opponents as the Cougars stuffed #10 Haxtun in four and #5 Briggsdale in five.  The Bulldogs and Falcons also squared off in the three team event with Briggsdale grabbing a hard fought five set win.  Briggsdale took the first two sets but then outlasted the Bulldogs 15-11 in the decisive fifth frame.

Another solid win in the 1A ranks went to unranked Cheraw as the Wolverines bumped off #6 Sangre De Cristo 3-0 in the season opening match for both clubs.

In the big school ranks, #9 Holy Family (4A) was taken out by 5A Broomfield 3-0 and #5 Rampart (5A) had little trouble in beating Fairview 3-0.
