Limited schedule for girls basketball on Wednesday night but still some important matchups on the slate including the likely championship game inside the 5A Centennial.  That game pits #2 Grandview on the road to #5 Arapahoe.

It’s the second meeting between the league rivals with Grandview easily taking the first 74-55.  That game separates the two atop the league standings so the Wolves clinch the championship with another win.  Arapahoe forces a tie for the top spot with both teams having one more conference game later in the week including the Warriors having a tough battle with Mullen.

Mullen and Cherry Creek are battling for third.  They enter tonight’s action tied at 6-3 in league play but the Bruins own the tiebreaker based on their 43-34 win over the Mustangs earlier this year.

Valor Christian clinches the Jeffco crown by beating Arvada West tonight.  If that happens, then Ralston Valley creates a three-way tie for second with a win over Columbine.  That would leave those two clubs and Chatfield with two league losses provided the Chargers get by Lakewood.  If Chatfield and Arvada West both lose, then the Ralston Valley-Columbine winner sits in second.

Green Mountain and D’Evelyn play for a third time this year but the game has no bearing on the 4A Jeffco standings.  Tonight’s game is considered a non-conference game and was picked up to help fill out both teams’ schedule.  The Rams and Jaguars split two league meetings and share the conference lead but if the tie remains at the end of the regular season, Green Mountain is the champion based on point differential in the two conference meetings.

In Class 3A, all three ranked teams on the court have already locked in their conference finish as Vanguard and St Mary’s are 1-2 in the Tri Peaks and Lutheran has already clinched the Metro title.  But all three look to boost RPI numbers ahead of the district tournament round next week.  In today’s rankings, Vanguard is #2 with St Mary’s #7 and Lutheran #10.
