Tuesday night, we posted our consensus girls’ basketball rankings for games completed through Monday. Now we use those rankings to put together projected playoff pairings for Classes 1A, 2A and 3A. The top eight seeds in each division earn byes to the Sweet Sixteen and then meet winners from the opening round.
Playoff teams in girls' basketball this year will be selected on votes that combine polls from CHSAA, RPI, Packard and MaxPreps. Below are updated numbers through games that were played by February 21st. These numbers more closely resemble those that will be used by CHSAA to determine postseason qualifiers.
Tuesday night brings another good round of girls’ basketball across the state as top clubs continue their drive to a league championship and high playoff seed. Some of the best matchups include Wray vs Burlington, Eaton at University, George Washington at Highlands Ranch and Chaparral vs Rangeview.
Compared to a normal Monday night, we have a very busy schedule in girls' basketball tonight as top 10 teams for all five divisions step on the court. There are also several more clubs involved in conference games where wins could push them closer to a league championship.
New girls’ basketball rankings have been released by CHSAA. The polls reflect votes from coaches throughout the state and will be used to help select which teams make the state playoffs this year. This set of rankings will be added to MaxPreps, RPI and Packard to determine qualifiers.

Many conference races in Class 1A, 2A and 3A girls’ basketball have started to take shape and those that haven’t may do so this week. That’s because the week five schedule is filled with many matchups of conference leaders. We look at each race and break down the current standings ahead of those critical pairings.
Focus is on the 1A game between #6 Kim/Branson-#8 South Baca, the 2A clash between #3 Holyoke-#6 Sedgwick County and #4 Windsor against #6 Holy Family in Class 4A. And for good measure, there’s the second installment of Mullen-Grandview as both enter the matchup ranked number one in their division.
In addition to the football discussion about adding a new division, the CHSAA Classification and League Organizing Committee also approved Class 6A for basketball as well. Like the football proposal, this concept must also be approved by the full CHSAA Legislative Council during the annual meeting in April. If approved then, the six classification layout would become effective with the start of the 2022-23 season.
