Over the next couple of days, the post-season bracket for girls basketball teams in Classes 3A-2A-1A will be reduced to eight teams that will compete in the respective state tournament next week.  Throughout the weekend, Colorado Preps will update results and look forward to where teams might be placed in future brackets.  We invite you to check back throughout the next two days to see our updates.

9:27pm:  Class 3A regional championship pairings are set – we list the games in bracket order as the teams will NOT be reseeded ahead of the Great 8 next Thursday in Denver.

  • #1 St Mary’s vs #16 Jefferson Academy
  • #8 Faith Christian vs #9 Vanguard
  • #5 Pagosa Springs vs #12 Manitou Springs
  • #4 Delta vs #13 Platte Valley
  • #2 Academy vs #18 Brush
  • #7 Lutheran vs #10 Eaton
  • #6 Centauri vs #11 Alamosa
  • #3 University vs #14 Cedaredge

9:12pm:  With Sanford getting by Hayden in overtime and Wray moving past Calhan, day one of the 2A regional bracket is now complete.  Regional finals are set for Saturday with each winner earning a berth to the state tournament.  Remember, the bracket will be reseeded once the eight qualifiers are determined.

  • #1 Holyoke vs #17 Soroco
  • #2 Limon vs #15 Hotchkiss
  • #3 Meeker vs #14 Wray
  • #4 Heritage Christian vs #13 Sanford
  • #5 Rye vs #12 Dawson
  • #6 Del Norte vs #11 Peyton
  • #7 Simla vs #23 Holly
  • #8 Ignacio vs #9 Rocky Ford

9:09pm:  Soroco gets through to the regional finals as they score the mild upset of Denver Christian 48-33.  The Rams are the #17 seed with the Thunder one spot ahead at #16.  Now the Rams look to upset top seeded Holyoke in a regional final on Saturday.
8:58pm:  Another candidate for Game of the Day involves Brush and Grand Valley as the Beetdiggers score a narrow 62-61 decision.  Seed wise, it’s considered an upset as the Beetdiggers were #18 and Grand Valley #15 in the pairings.  It’s the first win of the day in Class 3A for a lower seed.
8:58pm:  A good win for Rocky Ford as they eliminate West Grand 54-25 and now prep to meet Ignacio tomorrow afternoon.  The Bobcats are seeded #8 and the Meloneers #9 so it’s expected to be one of the better battles for a state tournament berth.
8:55pm:  A new state champion in Class 2A is now a certainty as Dawson takes out Yuma 47-32.  The Indians were the defending state champions but seeded just #21 in the regional bracket this year.  The Mustangs advance to challenge Rye in the regional finals on Saturday.
8:45pm:  St Mary’s is the two-time defending state champion and overwhelming favorite to make it three straight in 3A.  They opened the post-season chase by blitzing Eagle Ridge Academy 72-19.  The Pirates host Jefferson Academy on Saturday.
8:16pm:  Regional finals are now finalized in Class 1A – all eight games are Saturday and all winners reach the state tournament.

  • 10:00am:  Dove Creek vs Cotopaxi
  • 11:00am:  Fleming vs Lone Star
  • 11:00am:  McClave vs Kim/Branson
  • 12:45pm:  Shining Mountain vs Flatirons Academy
  • 1:00pm:  Sangre De Cristo vs DeBeque
  • 2:00pm:  Genoa Hugo vs Springfield
  • 4:30pm:  Briggsdale vs Merino
  • 5:00pm:  South Baca vs Eads

8:15pm:  Flatirons Academy gets a bucket at the buzzer to stun Stratton/Liberty 48-46 to close out the schedule at the 1A Northeast regional.  The Bison advance to meet #3 Shining Mountain in a regional final on Saturday.
7:34pm:  Both #3 Meeker and #5 Rye have strong state championship hopes and both quickly dispatched first round opponents.  Meeker blew past Telluride 50-10 and Rye dumped Center 63-19.  Meeker will face the winner of Wray-Calhan with Rye waiting to battle either Dawson or defending state champion Yuma.
7:26pm:  Another 3A score has Centauri moving past Kent Denver 59-44.  The win sets up a San Luis Valley showdown between the Falcons and Moose on Saturday.  It’s their fourth meeting with Centauri winning the first three.
7:25pm:  Jefferson Academy used a strong second half to edge Moffat County 52-50.  The Jaguars are seeded #16 in the bracket and should face two-time defending state champion St Mary’s in round two.  The top seeded Pirates meet Eagle Ridge Academy next.
7:24pm:  In a game that we normally see in the Final Four or championship round, #5 Pagosa Springs easily downed Colorado Springs Christian 52-17.  The Pirates will remain home for a Saturday championship game against either #12 Manitou Springs or #21 Estes Park.
7:23pm:  #8 Ignacio rolled past Sargent 51-22 to score a first round win in the 2A Region 8 bracket.  Up next could be a date with #9 Rocky Ford if the Meloneers get by West Grand in game two of those pairings.
7:22pm:  2A top seed Holyoke was not pushed in a 42-8 rout of Lotus School.  The Dragons move forward in the bracket and will face the winner of Denver Christian-Soroco game for the Region 1 championship on Saturday.  The Thunder and Rams are #16 and #17 in the pairings.
7:02pm:  Following a tough loss to Faith Christian in the 3A Metro district semifinals a week ago, Lutheran came out and played very well in a 67-28 win over Coal Ridge.  The Lions could meet another traditional power in Eaton on Saturday if the #10 Reds can get by #23 Trinidad in game two in Parker.
6:49pm:  In another defensive minded win, Cedaredge drops Skyview Academy 32-14 on Friday.  The Bruins head to the regional finals on Saturday against either University or La Junta.  The Bulldogs are favored.  They’re the Patriot league champions, both in the regular season and district tournament, and are seeded third overall in the bracket.
6:44pm:  Points were hard to come by but Platte Valley scored enough in a 25-20 win over Roaring Fork.  The #13 Broncos now advance to the regional finals tomorrow and a date with #4 Delta is most likely.  The Panthers are heavily favored against Buena Vista.
6:41pm:  Saturday’s schedule in the 1A Southeast regional is now finalized.  Winners of the three games below will qualify for the state tournament.

  • 11:00am:  #3 McClave vs Kim/Branson
  • 2:00pm:  #2 Genoa Hugo vs Springfield
  • 5:00pm:  #1 South Baca vs Eads

6:40pm:  Eads is the third and final winner of the day in the 1A Southeast bracket.  The Eagles dumped Elbert 42-26 to close the first day of play in the bracket.  Eads now challenges top seeded South Baca in a regional final on Saturday.  Game time at 5:00pm.
6:26pm:  We’ve had six games played in Class 2A thus far and only one lower seed has picked up a win.  That’s #23 Holly who topped #10 Colorado Springs School in Region 7.  That’s one of two regional finals already set in the bracket – Holly will face #7 Simla while #11 Peyton tangles with #6 Del Norte in Region 6.
6:24pm:  A very good team that doesn’t get a lot of attention gained a powerful 67-29 win in the opening round of 2A regionals.  That was the final for Heritage Christian over Byers.  The once-beaten Eagles now wait for the winner of #13 Sanford-#20 Hayden in the regional championship game.
5:59pm:  23rd seeded Holly scores a first round upset of #10 Colorado Springs School as they edge the Kodiaks 43-41.  CSS was missing two key starters and the Wildcats took advantage and will now face host and 7th seeded Simla in a regional final on Saturday.  Game time is set for 1:00pm in Simla.
5:58pm:  Peyton scores an easier than expected win over Swink 62-34 so the Panthers roll into the regional finals on Saturday where they will face Del Norte.  The Tigers are the 6th seed and downed Mancos earlier in the day.  Tip time on Saturday is for 1:00pm in Del Norte.
5:42pm:  Hotchkiss worked overtime but collected a 60-51 overtime win over Sedgwick County.  The Bulldogs advance to the 2A Regional finals against either Limon or Loveland Classical.  It’s likely the Badgers as they’re seeded #2 with Loveland Classical at #31.
5:23pm:  A strong second half pushed Merino to a 58-40 win over Lower Platte league rival this afternoon.  The Rams used the win to reach the 1A Northeast regional final against top seeded Briggsdale.  That matchup is set for 4:30pm Saturday afternoon at Englewood high school.  The two clubs faced off about three weeks ago with Briggsdale scoring a 59-42 home win.
4:32pm:  Faith Christian continues their late season charge in Class 3A.  After winning the Metro district championship, the Eagles received the 8th seed and disposed of Middle Park 48-32 today.  They’re now one win away from the state tournament and will meet either Vanguard or Liberty Common in round two tomorrow.  The Coursers and Eagles collide later today.
4:23pm:  Del Norte is seeded 6th in Class 2A and is through to the regional finals thanks to their 46-21 win over Mancos.  Up next, the Tigers face the winner of Peyton vs Swink.   Peyton is seeded 11th and Swink #22 with the Lions the defending state runners-up.
4:21pm:  Simla gets by Gilpin County 43-33 in a first round 2A regional contest and the win could set up a third showdown with league rival Colorado Springs School.  The Cubs won both the regular season and district championship matchup with the Kodiaks with round three tomorrow if CSS gets by Holly.  That game tips in a few minutes.
4:09pm:  Alamosa is through to the second round of the 3A state tournament as they knock off Riverdale Ridge 60-39.  The Moose most likely will have a fourth matchup with Centauri in the finals on Saturday as the Falcons are favored in their first round game with Kent Denver.  Alamosa is 0-3 vs Centauri this season.
3:45pm:  The three-year dominance of Kit Carson in Class 1A comes to a close as the Wildcats fall to Springfield 38-29.  It’s the third loss of the season to Springfield and ends Kit Carson’s season two games shy of another state tournament.  They won the last three state titles.  Springfield now advances to face Genoa Hugo in what should be a tremendous regional final on Saturday.
12:34pm:  Next game to tip off is set for 2:00pm as part of the 1A Southeast Regional – Kit Carson meets Springfield at La Junta High School.
12:23pm:  Coming off their first district title since 2001, Lone Star has made it to the regional final by beating Front Range Baptist 45-31.  The win was their 20th on the season and sets up a Saturday matchup with Fleming with the winner qualifying for the state tournament.  The two teams did not meet in the regular season.
12:18pm:  Kim/Branson is the first team to post a win this weekend as they move past Kiowa 41-26.  The Mustangs advance to face McClave in the Southeast regional tomorrow.  The winner of that game advances to the state tournament.  McClave won a regular season meeting between the two 47-35.
