Colorado Preps provides a quick rundown of the top scores from Thursday night and then adds a breakdown of how the results impact league and playoff standings.

CLASS 1A

FINAL:  #4 Flatirons Academy beat Belleview Christian 63-26

FINAL:  #6 McClave beat Springfield 48-40

FINAL:  #10 Shining Mountain beat Rocky Mountain Lutheran 54-17

GAME NOTES:  Quality non-league win for McClave.  They entered the night fifth in our combined rankings so they remain very much alive for a top eight seed and first round bye come playoff time.  Springfield was 13th in those rankings and while the loss may ding their record a bit, it should not impact their playoff qualifying status.  Flatirons Academy and Shining Mountain kept their hold on the top two spots in the 5280.  Flatirons has the head-to-head win over the Lions and a one game edge in the standings.

CLASS 2A

FINAL:  #1 Sanford beat South Park 78-14

FINAL:  #3 Rye beat Trinidad 65-10

FINAL:  #4 Rocky Ford beat Las Animas 59-18

FINAL:  #5 Cedaredge beat #7 Paonia 37-29

GAME NOTES:  Sanford remains tied with Center for the Southern Peaks lead.  They moved to 10-0 on the season with tonight’s win as well.  The game starts a busy weekend for the Indians who also meet Sargent on Friday before the big matchup with Centauri on Saturday.  Cedaredge gained the outright lead in the Western Slope South division and avenged an earlier loss to Paonia.  The teams were tied with one league loss apiece going in but now the Bruins stand alone and should end up with the division title at years end.  They would then face the Northern division champ for the overall conference crown.  Rye and Rocky Ford both made quick work of opponents in their final tuneup ahead of Friday’s showdown.  The Thunderbolts and Meloneers are a combined 14-0 in league play and since they have at least a two-game edge on all other league opponents, the winner should end up with the conference crown.

CLASS 3A

FINAL:  #1 Vanguard beat Ellicott 57-47

#3 Lutheran at Colorado Academy (PPD)

FINAL:  #4 Eaton beat Liberty Common 44-36

FINAL:  #5 Platte Valley beat Frontier Academy 70-23

FINAL:  #7 Delta beat Montrose 59-32

#10 Kent Denver vs Peak to Peak (PPD)

FINAL:  Bennett beat Arrupe Jesuit 54-38

DSST-Byers at Aurora West

FINAL:  Brush beat Estes Park 58-24

GAME NOTES:  Bennett is now alone in second in the Frontier conference.  Both the Tigers and Arrupe Jesuit had one league loss going and both trailed first-place Academy for the league title.  Bennett has a loss to Academy so they will need some help from others to gain the league crown.  Platte Valley kept sole possession of the Patriot lead with their easy win over Frontier Academy.  The Broncos are the lone unbeaten left in conference play.  Brush kept a share of second place with Eaton by winning at Estes Park.  Eaton has games next week with Brush and Platte Valley so all three teams remain in the title chase.

CLASS 4A

FINAL:  #9 Northridge beat Mountain View 45-35

FINAL:  Thompson Valley beat Roosevelt 67-61

GAME NOTES:  Northridge opened the night tied for first with Thompson Valley and Roosevelt for the Longs Peaks lead.  Their win allows them to keep a share of the lead as they will remain tied with the winner between the Riders and Eagles.

CLASS 5A

#2 Valor Christian vs #9 Rangeview (PPD)

#3 Regis vs Rock Canyon (PPD)

#4 Highlands Ranch vs Heritage (PPD)

#7 Chaparral at Mountain Vista (PPD)

FINAL:  Grand Junction Central beat Grand Junction 57-33

GAME NOTES:  Grand Junction Central picked up a quality win over Fruita Monument earlier this week and now remains a game back of the Wildcats in the SWL with tonight’s win.  Since they do not meet Fruita again this year, the Warriors will need some help to catch them in the league standings.
