The Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to touchdowns from Nick Leopardi and Iker Alfaro, but things were far from over for the night.
The Roughriders scored 26 unanswered points before Leopardi scored his second receiving touchdown of the night to keep it a one-score game at halftime.
Oliver Hansen connected on a pair of field goals to give Holy Family the lead then Kaden Hopkin found Kai Osburn to make it a 34-26 lead for the Tigers. From that point on, they never looked back. The Tigers host Lewis-Palmer in two weeks.
(3) Pomona 17, (4A No. 7) Pueblo West 7
A defensive battle between two defensive-minded teams went the way of Pomona. The Panthers improve to 2-0 on the year and get what could be a signature win in 2025.
Class 5A
(3) Legend 43, Columbine 0
The Titans rolled to another big win as they shutout Columbine. This is just the third meeting between the two schools and the first win for Legend.
“We feel amazing,” quarterback DJ Bordeaux said. “We just did our jobs again, were disciplined and everything goes the right way.”
Bordeaux threw for three touchdowns while Ryken Banks had a day on the ground, rushing for 145 yards and two scores.
This is the first 0-3 start for Columbine since before the start of the MaxPreps era in 2004.
(10) Arapahoe 35, (4A No. 5) Heritage 14
Arapahoe bounced back from a Week 1 loss to Mountain Vista by beating its district rival and retaining the Milk Jug.
Class 4A
The highest ranked teams in the classification came away with big wins as No. 1 Broomfield beat Monarch 28-17 and Dakota Ridge made the trip to Florida to beat Winter Springs 38-7.
No. 6 Vista Ridge rolled to a 52-0 win over Evanston (Wyo.) while No. 10 Loveland was dominant in a 72-0 win over Mountain View.
Class 2A
Last year’s state title game competitors had big days as TCA beat Florence 49-20 while Wellington opened its season with a 68-0 win over Fort Lupton.
The classification did see a top-10 team fall as Brush beat University 29-22.
Class 1A
Wiggins and Yuma scored big wins as the Tigers beat No. 6 Meeker 26-16 and the Outlaws got a 31-15 win over North Fork.
8-man
No. 2 Akron started slow, but picked up momentum in the second half to get a 70-38 win over St. Mary’s. Jakzon Livesay scored the first two touchdowns of the game for the Rams and they eventually picked up momentum to get the easy win.
6-man
Eads is continuing to gain attention as the Eagles rolled to a 78-6 win over Miami-Yoder. The Eagles are averaging 83 points per game this season. Idalia, Granada and Otis were also big winners on Friday.
Streaks over
A couple of Colorado Springs area teams are in the win column for the first time in a long time. Sierra beat Palmer 12-7 while Widefield scored a 17-7 win over Liberty.
For the Gladiators, it’s the first win for new head coach Brian Winkleman. Sierra coach Joe Roskam guided the Stallions to a 4-6 record in 2023.
