With composite rankings released by Colorado Preps earlier today, the process of projecting regional tournament pairings can now start. League champions earn automatic berths in the 24-team field. The remaining spots are to be filled by the combined rankings. The top eight seeds in each class host a one day three-team tournament with each of the eight winners advancing to the state tournament.
Please note that the combined rankings and our pairings are strictly unofficial. Official combined rankings will be released later this weekend with official brackets announced by CHSAA on Monday. The matchups below are for projection purposes only. They were put together before matches started on Tuesday April 20th.
CLASS 1A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Fleming | 2 | Simla | 3 | Wiley | 4 | Stratton/Liberty |
16 | Weldon Valley | 15 | Otis | 14 | McClave | 13 | Elbert |
24 | La Veta | 23 | South Baca | 22 | Evangelical Chr. | 21 | Flagler |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Merino | 6 | Springfield | 7 | Sangre De Cristo | 8 | Briggsdale |
12 | Genoa Hugo | 11 | Dove Creek | 10 | Kit Carson | 9 | Belleview Christian |
20 | Flatirons Academy | 19 | Cheraw | 18 | Antonito | 17 | Cotopaxi |
NOTE: La Veta moves ahead of Haxtun and into the 24th spot as the Redskins are the Fishers Peak league champion and receive an automatic bid even though they are outside the top 24 in overall rankings. Could also see Weldon Valley and Otis flipped to avoid a league conflict between Weldon Valley and Fleming. And ECA and Flagler could also swap spots at #21 and #22 for the same reason with Flagler and Stratton/Liberty. Antonito may stay put at #18 since moving them one spot up or down doesn’t alleviate the league matchup issue.
CLASS 2A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Wiggins | 2 | Denver Christian | 3 | Meeker | 4 | Sedgwick County |
16 | Dawson | 15 | Holyoke | 14 | Rye | 13 | Union Colony |
24 | Telluride | 23 | CS School | 22 | Dolores | 21 | Monte Vista |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Fowler | 6 | Vail Christian | 7 | Dayspring Christian | 8 | Vail Mountain |
12 | Heritage Christian | 11 | Del Norte | 10 | Limon | 9 | Soroco |
20 | Sargent | 19 | Byers | 18 | Addenbrooke | 17 | Rocky Ford |
NOTE: Calhan is 25th in overall rankings but remains in contention for the Black Forest title. They enter the final week tied with #23 Colorado Springs School for the conference lead. One of the two will earn an automatic bid to the regional bracket and based on final numbers, could also bump a team from the top 24.
CLASS 3A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Eaton | 2 | Lamar | 3 | Montezuma Cortez | 4 | Sterling |
16 | Liberty Common | 15 | Manitou Springs | 14 | Vanguard | 13 | Platte Valley |
24 | Basalt | 23 | DSST-Byers | 22 | CS Christian | 21 | Bennett |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Bayfield | 6 | DSST-Montview | 7 | Lutheran | 8 | University |
12 | Middle Park | 11 | Prospect Ridge | 10 | Rez Christian | 9 | Alamosa |
20 | St Mary’s | 19 | Centauri | 18 | Eagle Ridge | 17 | Faith Christian |
NOTE: Could see the second line in the top half of the bracket changed to avoid league conflicts. Liberty Common and Manitou Springs could swap spots and the same could be done to Vanguard and Platte Valley to keep league teams from the same regional. Basalt is not in the top 30 of our combined rankings but the Longhorns are one win away from winning the 3A Western Slope title. If that happens, then the Longhorns replace Highland as the final seed in the bracket. If Basalt stumbles, then Delta could take the league crown and they would also move into the bracket under our current rankings.
CLASS 4A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Cheyenne Mtn. | 2 | Palmer Ridge | 3 | Windsor | 4 | Eagle Valley |
16 | Holy Family | 15 | Thomas Jefferson | 14 | Thompson Valley | 13 | Woodland Park |
24 | Evergreen | 23 | Pueblo South | 22 | Weld Central | 21 | Erie |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Palisade | 6 | Mead | 7 | Coronado | 8 | Discovery Canyon |
12 | Frederick | 11 | Skyview | 10 | Niwot | 9 | Durango |
20 | Steamboat Spgs | 19 | Falcon | 18 | Classical Academy | 17 | Montrose |
NOTE: The only league concern takes places in region five where Palisade and Steamboat Springs pair up. That can be solved by swapping Steamboat with Falcon in spots 19 and 20. All other brackets avoid conference pairings. Evergreen would also move into the bracket ahead of Fort Morgan right now as the Cougars are in position to land the Jeffco crown and get an automatic berth. They also sit 25th in combined rankings this week.
CLASS 5A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Mountain Vista | 2 | Rampart | 3 | Columbine | 4 | Cherokee Trail |
16 | Fort Collins | 15 | Denver East | 14 | Grandview | 13 | Legend |
24 | Brighton | 23 | Horizon | 22 | Regis | 21 | Lakewood |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Ralston Valley | 6 | Cherry Creek | 7 | Chaparral | 8 | Chatfield |
12 | Pueblo West | 11 | Liberty | 10 | Valor Christian | 9 | Fossil Ridge |
20 | Broomfield | 19 | Fruita Monument | 18 | Pine Creek | 17 | Loveland |
NOTE: These pairings avoid conference conflicts across the board and would represent a very good bracket. Vista Peak is not in the top 30 but remains tied with Brighton for the EMAC championship. The Bison would become league champion by beating Brighton and then possibly replace them as well in the regional pairings.
