With composite rankings released by Colorado Preps earlier today, the process of projecting regional tournament pairings can now start. League champions earn automatic berths in the 24-team field. The remaining spots are to be filled by the combined rankings. The top eight seeds in each class host a one day three-team tournament with each of the eight winners advancing to the state tournament.
Please note that the combined rankings and our pairings are strictly unofficial. Official combined rankings will be released later this weekend with official brackets announced by CHSAA on Monday. The matchups below are for projection purposes only. They were put together before matches started on Friday April 23rd.
CLASS 1A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Fleming | 2 | Simla | 3 | Wiley | 4 | Stratton/Liberty |
16 | Weldon Valley | 15 | Otis | 14 | McClave | 13 | Elbert |
24 | La Veta | 23 | South Baca | 22 | Antonito | 21 | Flagler |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Merino | 6 | Springfield | 7 | Sangre De Cristo | 8 | Belleview Christian |
12 | Genoa Hugo | 11 | Dove Creek | 10 | Kit Carson | 9 | Briggsdale |
20 | Evangelical Christian | 19 | Cheraw | 18 | Flatirons Academy | 17 | Cotopaxi |
NOTE: La Veta moves ahead of Haxtun and into the 24th spot as the Redskins are the Fishers Peak league champion and receive an automatic bid even though they are outside the top 24 in overall rankings. Could also see Weldon Valley and Otis flipped to avoid a league conflict between Weldon Valley and Fleming. Flagler could be swapped with either Antonito or Evangelical Christian to avoid being placed in the same pairing with league rival Stratton/Liberty.
CLASS 2A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Wiggins | 2 | Meeker | 3 | Denver Christian | 4 | Sedgwick County |
16 | Dawson | 15 | Holyoke | 14 | Rye | 13 | Union Colony |
24 | Telluride | 23 | Sargent | 22 | Byers | 21 | Colorado Springs School |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Fowler | 6 | Vail Christian | 7 | Dayspring Christian | 8 | Vail Mountain |
12 | Heritage Christian | 11 | Del Norte | 10 | Soroco | 9 | Limon |
20 | Dolores | 19 | Monte Vista | 18 | Addenbrooke | 17 | Rocky Ford |
NOTE: The bracket lays out nicely except for a conference pairing of Del Norte and Monte Vista in region 6. Monte Vista could exchange spots with Dolores to avoid that conflict.
CLASS 3A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Eaton | 2 | Montezuma Cortez | 3 | Lamar` | 4 | Sterling |
16 | Liberty Common | 15 | Vanguard | 14 | Platte Valley | 13 | Manitou Springs |
24 | Machebeuf | 23 | DSST-Byers | 22 | Bennett | 21 | CS Christian |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Bayfield | 6 | Lutheran | 7 | DSST-Montview | 8 | Alamosa |
12 | Middle Park | 11 | Prospect Ridge | 10 | Rez Christian | 9 | University |
20 | St Mary’s | 19 | Eagle Ridge | 18 | Faith Christian | 17 | Centauri |
NOTE: The bracket has a few conference conflicts as Liberty Common joins Eaton in Region 1, Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs Christian are together in Region 4, Lutheran and Prospect Ridge are both in Region 6 and Alamosa and Centauri are paired up in Region 8. Liberty Common could move to #15 and exchange places with Vanguard to resolve that issue. Colorado Springs Christian can’t move up or down just one berth as a conference conflict with still remain within Tri Peaks teams. Prospect Ridge could be moved down to 12th and flip with Middle Park to avoid that issue. Centauri and Faith Christian may also flip spots 17 and 18.
CLASS 4A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Cheyenne Mtn. | 2 | Windsor | 3 | Palmer Ridge | 4 | Eagle Valley |
16 | Thompson Valley | 15 | Holy Family | 14 | Thomas Jefferson | 13 | Woodland Park |
24 | Evergreen | 23 | Pueblo South | 22 | Steamboat Spgs | 21 | Weld Central |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Mead | 6 | Coronado | 7 | Palisade | 8 | Discovery Canyon |
12 | Frederick | 11 | Skyview | 10 | Niwot | 9 | Durango |
20 | Erie | 19 | Falcon | 18 | Classical Academy | 17 | Montrose |
NOTE: Holy Family and Thompson Valley could flip spots at #15-16 to avoid the Tigers playing the same bracket with league rival Windsor. Erie could either move up or down one berth to avoid placement with league rival Mead. And then Montrose could move to #18 and exchange with TCA to avoid a conference conflict with Durango. Travel would also be reduced for both teams as Montrose would go to Palisade and Classical Academy across the Springs to Discovery Canyon.
CLASS 5A
Region 1 | Region 2 | Region 3 | Region 4
1 | Mountain Vista | 2 | Rampart | 3 | Cherokee Trail | 4 | Columbine |
16 | Fort Collins | 15 | Denver East | 14 | Grandview | 13 | Liberty |
24 | Horizon | 23 | Brighton | 22 | Lakewood | 21 | Regis |
Region 5 | Region 6 | Region 7 | Region 8
5 | Ralston Valley | 6 | Cherry Creek | 7 | Chaparral | 8 | Fossil Ridge |
12 | Legend | 11 | Pueblo West | 10 | Valor Christian | 9 | Chatfield |
20 | Broomfield | 19 | Fruita Monument | 18 | Loveland | 17 | Pine Creek |
NOTE: Two conference pairings to possibly “fix” as Horizon is together with Fort Collins in Region 1 and Grandview and Cherokee Trail are both found in Region 3. Grandview could likely move to #13 and exchange places with Liberty. And Horizon and Brighton could easily flip the final two seeds to avoid the Front Range conference regional matchup.
