With only three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Colorado Preps postseason projections for volleyball can get started.  League champions earn automatic invitations to the regional tournament with the remaining positions determined by RPI.  Once the list of qualifiers is set, then the seeding committee can expand into other polling metrics to seed the team in the bracket.  We call them the consensus rankings and we posted the latest edition earlier on Tuesday.

In Class 1A, 24 teams advance to the regional tournament with the top eight seeds hosting tournament.  The winners of each move to the state tournament with four more wildcards selected by RPI added to the field.

For the remaining four divisions, 36 teams qualify for the postseason and are spread out between 12-three team regional tournaments.  The champions of each advance to the state tournament.  No wildcard selections are made.

Our consensus rankings were based on rankings issued before matches began on Tuesday October 12th.  Projected pairings based on true seed are posted below with a few notes posted to suggest potential changes.

CLASS 1A

REGION 1 #1 Briggsdale #16 Springfield #24 Sangre De Cristo
REGION 2 #2 Haxtun #15 Kit Carson #23 Cheyenne Wells
REGION 3 #3 Merino #14 Genoa Hugo #22 Prairie
REGION 4 #4 Fleming #13 McClave #21 RM Lutheran
REGION 5 #5 Wiley #12 Weldon Valley #20 La Veta
REGION 6 #6 Cheraw #11 Flatirons Academy #19 Simla
REGION 7 #7 Stratton #10 Dove Creek #18 Otis
REGION 8 #8 Idalia #9 Belleview Christian #17 North Park

NOTE:  Could see the committee exchange Cheyenne Wells and Prairie in spots 22 and 23 to avoid a conference pairing of Kit Carson and Cheyenne Wells in region two.  Travel is not changed that much.  Could also see North Park and Springfield flipped to save some travel distances for North Park.  Otherwise, this is a solid bracket.

CLASS 2A

REGION 1 #1 Sedgwick County #24 Vail Christian #36 Mancos
REGION 2 #2 Meeker #23 Addenbrooke Academy #35 Golden View Classical
REGION 3 #3 Wiggins #22 Crowley County #34 Rangely
REGION 4 #4 Fowler #21 Sanford #33 Las Animas
REGION 5 #5 Dayspring Christian #20 Akron #32 Heritage Christian
REGION 6 #6 Soroco #19 Yuma #31 CO Springs School
REGION 7 #7 Denver Christian #18 Plateau Valley #30 Wray
REGION 8 #8 Holyoke #17 Limon #29 Calhan
REGION 9 #9 Byers #16 Sargent #28 Rocky Ford
REGION 10 #10 West Grand #15 Hoehne #27 Lyons
REGION 11 #11 Ignacio #14 Olathe #26 Dolores
REGION 12 #12 Union Colony Prep #13 Rye #25 John Mall

NOTE:  Quite a few conference conflicts to deal with including Las Animas-Fowler in Region 4, Heritage Christian-Dayspring Christian in Region 5, Dolores-Ignacio in Region 11 and John Mall-Rye in Region 12.  In each case the lower seed would likely be moved.  Mancos would also be shifted around to stay closer to home instead of heading all the way to Sedgwick County.  Otherwise the travel is not that bad overall.

CLASS 3A

REGION 1 #1 Resurrection Christian  #24 St Mary’s #36 KIPP Collegiate
REGION 2 #2 Lamar #23 Peak to Peak #35 Buena Vista
REGION 3 #3 University #22 Vanguard #34 Bennett
REGION 4 #4 Lutheran #21 Delta #33 St Mary’s Academy
REGION 5 #5 Liberty Common #20 Montezuma Cortez #32 CS Christian
REGION 6 #6 Eaton #19 Pagosa Springs #31 Jefferson Academy
REGION 7 #7 Sterling #18 Prospect Ridge #30 La Junta
REGION 8 #8 DSST-Montview #17 Kent Denver #29 North Fork
REGION 9 #9 Faith Christian #16 Academy #28 James Irwin
REGION 10 #10 Valley #15 Manitou Springs #27 Strasburg
REGION 11 #11 Platte Valley #14 Centauri #26 Lake County
REGION 12 #12 Alamosa #13 Bayfield #25 Colorado Academy

NOTE:  Conference conflicts include Lamar-Buena Vista in Region 2, St Mary’s Academy-Lutheran in Region 4, Valley-Strasburg in Region 10 and Bayfield-Alamosa in Region 12.  Buena Vista could bump to #33 with St Mary’s Academy and #34 Bennett both sliding down one .  Strasburg and James Irwin could flip spots 27 and 28 to avoid that conflict while Manitou Springs could bump to #13 and let Bayfield and Centauri slide one spot apiece.  There is some concern for teams near the bottom of the RPI as one could get bumped by either Eagle Ridge Academy and Fort Lupton who are 49th and 50th overall but remain in contention to win the Colorado conference championship.  If one ends up on top, then that club enters the bracket as a league champion regardless of RPI.

CLASS 4A

REGION 1 #1 Palmer Ridge #24 D’Evelyn #36 Pueblo Central
REGION 2 #2 Erie #23 Woodland Park #35 Pueblo East
REGION 3 #3 Frederick #22 Roosevelt #34 Grand Junction Central
REGION 4 #4 Cheyenne Mountain #21 Durango #33 Canon City
REGION 5 #5 Windsor #20 Mullen #32 Northfield
REGION 6 #6 Niwot #19 Eagle Valley #31 Mesa Ridge
REGION 7 #7 Thompson Valley #18 Discovery Canyon #30 Steamboat Springs
REGION 8 #8 Classical Academy #17 Lewis Palmer #29 Elizabeth
REGION 9 #9 Montrose #16 Mead #28 Longmont
REGION 10 #10 Thomas Jefferson #15 Pueblo County #27 Green Mountain
REGION 11 #11 Holy Family #14 Falcon #26 Riverdale Ridge
REGION 12 #12 Palisade #13 Berthoud #25 Denver North

NOTE:  The only league conflict ins found in region 9 between Mead and Longmont but that can be solved by moving Longmont to either 29 and flip with Elizabeth or up to 27 and exchange positions with Green Mountain.  Weld Central is 53rd in RPI but is unbeaten and tied with Eagle Ridge Academy and Fort Lupton (both 3A) for the Colorado conference lead.  Should the Rebels land the title, they are in the playoff bracket regardless of RPI standings and would replace the lowest seed in the bracket (Pueblo Central).

CLASS 5A

REGION 1 #1 Cherry Creek #24 Fort Collins #36 Hinkley
REGION 2 #2 Grandview #23 Rock Canyon #35 Bear Creek
REGION 3 #3 Chaparral #22 Denver East #34 Westminster
REGION 4 #4 Valor Christian #21 Fossil Ridge #33 Horizon
REGION 5 #5 Mountain Vista #20 Legacy #32 Rocky Mountain
REGION 6 #6 Broomfield #19 Denver South #31 Fountain Fort Carson
REGION 7 #7 Highlands Ranch #18 Heritage #30 Monarch
REGION 8 #8 Ralston Valley #17 Fruita Monument #29 Arapahoe
REGION 9 #9 Rampart #16 Legend #28 Castle View
REGION 10 #10 Regis #15 Eaglecrest #27 Chatfield
REGION 11 #11 Brighton #14 Liberty #26 Douglas County
REGION 12 #12 Pueblo West #13 Pine Creek #25 Cherokee Trail

NOTE:  Have a few conference conflicts to deal with as Fossil Ridge-Horizon are together in Region 4A and fellow Front Range members Legacy and Rocky Mountain are in the Region 5 bracket.  Heritage and Highlands Ranch are both in Region 7 while Legend and Castle View are two Continental teams placed in the Region 9 bracket.  As a result, there would be quite a bit of shifting around in the bottom 12 seeds.  Vista Peak is also a team to remember.  They are 48th in RPI but sit tied with Brighton atop the East Metro and remain in playoff contention as a potential league champion.
