DENVER – The 2025 team champions for all three of Colorado’s girls tennis classifications were crowned on Tuesday at Denver Tennis Park.

In Class 5A, top-seeded Ralston Valley went back-to-back with a 4-2 win over No. 2 Cherry Creek to capture the Mustangs’ second straight title and second overall for the program’s history.

“This was the first time ever having kind of a bigger target on our backs,” Mustangs coach Kim Greason said. “We’ve always been one of the stronger teams, but not at the peak. So, we knew we had this huge target on our back. We just had to play the match in front of us and then when we got to this point, it was, ‘Just do what you’ve been doing.’

“It’s great because we have three seniors that were there last year when we kind of got a state title last year that was a little bit of a surprise to us. This was the one where we were saying we were going to have to defend a lot more pressure. But a lot of the girls have been saying that pressure is a privilege.”

The deciding match came at No. 4 doubles, where Ralston Valley’s Kate Decker and Sophia Baig won 6-3, 6-4 over Ashley Geohegan and Chagajee Colburnin to clinch the victory.

“There was definitely a lot of pressure, especially knowing that our two singles was kind of coming down to it a little bit,” Baig said. “But we just had to block all that out, look at the bright side and lock in.”

Decker added, “It wasn’t just us. The three matches before us were just as important. I know we got the game-winning match, those matches were just as important.”

Cherry Creek, which was runner-up last season, is the all-time leader in girls tennis team titles with 39.

In 4A, Cheyenne Mountain girls tennis team is back on top after finishing runner-up last season

the No. 2 Red-Tailed Hawks won 4-2 over top-seeded and defending state champion Kent Denver in a rematch of last year’s title dual. It was Cheyenne Mountain’s third team title in the last four years.

“It’s just incredible,” Cheyenne Mountain No. 1 singles player Alyssa Sadri said. “We won my freshman year and then we took second last year. So, to be able to come out on top is amazing, especially since we were seeded second and they were seeded one.”

Cheyenne Mountain is second all-time with 26 girls tennis team titles. Kent Denver is third all-time with six team titles.

Sadri won the decisive and title-clinching match with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 upset victory over Kent Denver’s Lila Moldenhauer, who just on Saturday locked up her third straight individual title at the individual state tournament.

“Looking toward this match, I thought I had no chance,” Sadri said. “Lily’s such an incredible player. She’s committed to an incredible college already. I’m just a junior. We were kind of counting up the matches we could win and we were never really considering my match as one of those. But then at individual state, I was able to get a set off her and for me, that was huge.”

In 3A, Peak to Peak won its first team title in the era of the new dual-style team tournament format.

The top-seeded Pumas won 4-3 over No. 2 Prospect Ridge. It was also the Pumas’ first team title since they won back-to-back team championships in 2018 and 2019.

“It’s super exciting, especially because our school is pretty small and we usually don’t do too well in sports,” Peak to Peak No. 1 singles player Lena Crotty said. “Our team has never won the (new) girls tennis state tournament, which is super exciting. I think we have a really great team and everyone really contributed to the win, so it’s definitely super exciting to see all that hard work pay off.”

The No. 2 doubles match, Peak to Peak’s El Allen-Bonney and Lhadze Olsen – also the individual champions for their line – won 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 against Stephanie Miller and Kate Nelson in what ended up being the deciding match of the morning.

“It feels fantastic,” Pumas head coach Michael Crotty said. “I think the girls deserve it. They played great all year, and they just played their game today. We’re mostly seniors and it came down to two seniors. I felt that if it came down to two doubles, if we wanted one team out there, that’s the team we wanted at the end to be out there.

“It’s a really big deal for the school, and it’s a really big deal for the girls. What’s amazing is they’re academics first and so, you know, they’re athletes too. But they’re just well rounded girls and work real hard. We’re really proud of them.”

Prospect Ridge has yet to win a girls tennis team title. Tuesday was the Miners’ first appearance in the finals of the new team tournament format.
