One final tuneup on the schedule for several highly ranked volleyball teams as they see action on the final day of the regular season. Conference wise, the most important battle is in the Southeast between #3 Wiley and #6 Springfield.
Both the Panthers and Longhorns are 12-1 on the season and expected to host regional tournaments in Class 1A next week. Wiley has a one game edge in the Ark Valley based on an earlier win over the Longhorns. They win the championship outright but Springfield forces a tie if they avenge the earlier loss.
One anticipated game missing from the schedule is the 2A West Slope battle between Meeker and Vail Christian. Both teams entered the final week unbeaten in league play and were scheduled to determine the crown with a head-to-head matchup to close the season. That game will not be played as the Saints entered quarantine after beating Soroco. Both clubs could host regional events next week.
Outside the rankings , Manitou Springs and Vanguard battle for the runner-up spot to Lamar in the Tri Peaks. Each has two league losses.
Coal Ridge hopes a win over 5A Fruita Monument will be enough to get them into the Class 3A regional round. The Titans entered Friday 26th in playoff points and would not be included in the bracket unless they climb into the top 24. New rankings will be posted before the regional pairings are released on Monday.
Cotopaxi and Evangelical Christian is a nice battle of teams that will compete in regionals next week. The Pirates are the West Central league champions and are 17th in our latest combined rankings. ECA sits 20th in that same poll.
