Another busy day of football action across the state as playoffs opened in Classes 2A, 1A and eight man and continued in the six man division.  Colorado Preps offered up a special playoff edition of the Scoreboard Show and during the 90-minute program we visited with 11 coaches scored wins to advance in the bracket.  The interviews are in their entirety below and many are shorter than normal as we try to squeeze in as many coaches as possible into each show.  Audio is presented by NAPA Auto Parts.

CENTAURI – Kyle Forster

The 5th seeded Falcons trailed Flatirons Academy 21-0 entering the fourth quarter but tallied four touchdowns in the final period to secure a wild 28-21 victory.  They now head to Centauri for a Class 1A state quarterfinal.

RIFLE – Damon Wells

Top seeded in the 2A bracket, the Bears made quick work of Englewood on their way to 48-15 victory over the Pirates.  Rifle now meets league rival Basalt on the road in the state quarters.

WRAY – Levi Kramer

For the second straight year, the Eagles opened the 1A playoff run in Florence.  Last year they fell to the Huskies on a last second touchdown but the trip in 2019 was successful as they upset the #6 seed in the bracket 13-10

MANCOS – Josh Gardner

It was an excellent bounce back for the Bluejays as they rolled Caliche 36-6 in the first round of the eight man playoffs.  A  year ago, the Bluejays were blanked at home by Merino in a frustrating first round loss.

SANFORD – Joe Cary

The Indians picked up a very good win over Holly (58-20) to remain unbeaten at 10-0.  Seeded second in the bracket, the Indians now take to the road to face #7 Pikes Peak Christian in the state quarterfinals.

DELTA – Ben Johnson

The Panthers are seeded fourth in Class 2A and opened the playoffs with a 44-0 shutout of Pagosa Springs.  Next up they meet Faith Christian in the state quarterfinals.

HIGHLAND – Zach Sandstrom

The only playoff game to reach overtime on Saturday was Highlands 14-7 win over Hotchkiss.   The tight game was not unexpected as the teams were seeded 8th and 9th in Class 1A going in.

MEEKER – Shane Phelan

Despite losing an all-state quarterback early in the game, the 4th seeded Cowboys found a way to rally past Buena Vista 34-20.  Now they host Centauri in round two of the 1A playoffs.

LAMAR – Jason Tice

The Savages picked up a hard fought 21-7 win over Eaton in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.  And the win was the first in the post-season for Lamar since 1995.

COLORADO SPRINGS CHRISTIAN – Jay Kersey

One of many tight games on Saturday took place in Colorado Springs where the Lions rallied from 14 points down in the first half to stun Yuma 17-14.  The Lions are now one win away from a second straight trip to the semifinals but standing in their way is Holyoke.  CSCS lost to Dragons 21-6 earlier this year.

MERINO – Nathan Schmidt

Banged up in key positions and suiting only 12 players, the Rams used a strong defensive effort to move past West Grand 14-8.  The Rams are seeded 8th in eight man and now must challenge four-time defending state champion Sedgwick County next week.
