The Holy Family Tigers are no strangers to having success in girls golf, but they certainly seem to be putting all the right pieces together once again in a quest to bring home a trophy.

It was quite the week for HFHS, easily swaying the Class 3A state race in its favor with three tournament wins. Holy Family won the Cherry Creek Bruin Invitational on Monday, beating Lutheran by six strokes, Mullen by 11 strokes and Valor Christian by 18 strokes. Acadia Curtis was second with a 74; Peyton Mraz came in at 78; and Finley Holmes fired a 79.

The Tigers also won the fifth Granite Peaks League meet Wednesday and the sixth GPL meet Thursday. Steffi Heitz earned medalist with her 71 Thursday at Coyote Creek and also earned co-medalist with a 78 at the Olde Course the day before that.

The Big Kahuna

Colorado Academy freshman Sophia Lee has gotten a lot of much warranted attention this season, frequently blazing to low scores and winning Metro League tournaments by the handful. Air Academy’s Landry Frost, however, may have just pushed herself into the spotlight this past week.

Also a freshman, Frost has had some solid rounds so far this spring, but nothing like Monday’s Pueblo West Lady Cyclone Invite, where she went 5-under 67 at Desert Hawk at Pueblo West. With the exception of a double on 16, she had a clean sheet that included seven birdies (she went out at 32 and came back at 35). The course played at 5,588 yards, giving her performance an extra eye-brow raise.

A ton of familiar names finished two through six, with Doherty’s Joylanae Barnhill carding 2-over 74 for second place and Salida’s Kyndra Johnson a stroke behind her at 75.

Falcon sophomore Brooklyn Kinder won the Sand Creek Scorpion Invite on Monday with a 79 at Valley Hi, overcoming a 7 on the first hole and settling into the course.

Cherry Creek won the fourth Continental League match on the strength of Tatum Platt and Makayla Profera. Platt earned medalist with a 1-under 71, but Profera’s par 72 round was one of her best showings of the season as she birdied four holes on the back nine.

Northfield’s Chanel Carlacci and Vista PEAK’s Sophia Capua have been solid this season, and the pair battled hard Monday at the City League #5 tournament at Wellshire. Carlacci carded a 3-over 76, while Capua came in at 77 — both girls were at least 10 strokes better than the rest of the field.

Hunting the Mega Bonus

(No Laying Up)

As explored earlier this week, Scott (2-under 69) and Hines (1-under 70) both played Rolling Hills very well. Scott strung together birdies on holes 8 through 11, then closed her round rather brilliantly. Then on Wednesday at Legacy Ridge, Hines went 4-under 68 but still found herself runner-up as Valor Christian’s Brenna Higgins thrust herself back in the state spotlight with a 6-under 66. Higgins had a perfectly clean card, including four birdies in a row between holes 11 and 14.

Frost’s best stretch Monday was the first six holes, in which she found the cup four times for birdies.

Another week, another low round for Rock Canyon’s Ashleigh Wilson. She shot 3-under 69 at Lone Tree on Monday, including an ace on the 115-yard 13th hole and an eagle on the 439-yard 11th.

Riverdale Ridge junior Brynn Balliet carded a 1-under 71 Tuesday at Todd Creek, making birdie on the final hole to give her Mega Bonus-hunting distinction.

Manitou Springs’ Addison Dorsey is heating up after her 1-under 71 Wednesday at Walking Stick. The sophomore responded to every bad hole she had with a good hole, carding seven birdies in the round to win the East Invitational by nine strokes.

Platt’s 71 at Aurora Hills included birdies on the first two holes and five of them overall.

Windsor’s Macy Kleve didn’t let a long drive out to Sterling rattle her Thursday, and in fact she may have spent all that time playing Sky Ranch in her mind. Because the Sterling Invite belonged completely to her. The senior was consistent as she shot 2-under 70, winning by seven strokes over SHS’ Macie Doherty on the strength of four birdies overall.

Salida’s Johnson was 11 strokes better than the field at her team’s home invitational Thursday, going 1-under 69 at Salida Golf Club. After making par on every hole on the front nine, she made birdie on four holes coming in.
