Thursday is a very important night of volleyball as several league leaders square off.  Below is a quick list of the top and most important matches and as the games conclude tonight, we’ll breakdown what they mean to conference races and the playoff picture.  We invite you to check with us throughout the night as we update the story as results are turned in.
 
CLASS 1A

  • Fleming secured third place in the North Central with a 3-0 sweep of Prairie.
  • Weldon Valley topped Briggsdale in four sets and with the win clinches the North Central championship.  It was their second win over the Falcons.

CLASS 2A

  • Denver Christian picked up a 3-0 win over Highland to stay alone in first atop the Mile High league.  The Thunder are 10-0 with a one game edge on Lyons and Union Colony.  Highland drops to fourth with their second league loss.
  • Lyons and Union Colony Prep both stay one game back of Denver Christian with wins on Tuesday.  Lyons swept Dayspring Christian and Union Colony did the same to Nederland.
  • Rye moves very close to claiming the Santa Fe West division championship with a three game sweep of Hoehne.  The clubs remain 1-2 in the standings but the Thunderbolts now have a two-game cushion.
  • Meeker beat 3A Grand Valley which may assist their RPI totals.  The Cowboys are second in the standings and battling Yuma and Wiggins for the top overall spot.
  • Limon and Byers earned important wins in the Union Pacific.  The Badgers kept sole possession of first place with their 3-1 win at Burlington and Byers stayed a game back with their 3-1 decision over Stratton/Liberty.  The Bulldogs and Knighted Eagles were tied for second place.  Byers and Limon play next week for the championship.

CLASS 3A

  • Colorado Springs Christian remains unbeaten in the Tri Peaks with their 3-0 sweep of Atlas Prep.  The Lions entered the night leading Manitou Springs by one game.
  • Standings atop the Patriot conference have changed.  Eaton, Platte Valley and Sterling opened the night tied for the top spot.  Eaton beat Estes Park 3-0 and Platte Valley swept Valley 3-0.  Sterling though was knocked off by University in three so the Tigers fall off the pace and drop to third.  University is now alone in fourth.

CLASS 4A

  • Lewis Palmer moves past Discovery Canyon 3-0.  The teams were ranked 1-2 in both the CHSAA rankings and RPI plus they shared the Pikes Peak lead.  The result leaves the Rangers alone in first while Discovery Canyon drops into a second place with Palmer Ridge and Air Academy.  The Bears beat Falcon 3-0 on Thursday and the Kadets topped Cheyenne Mountain in five.
  • Pueblo County and Pueblo West both picked up wins on Thursday and they remain 1-2 in the South Central conference.  Both won in straight sets; County over Pueblo East and West over Pueblo Centennial.
  • Evergreen sweeps Wheat Ridge 3-0 to maintain sole possession of first place within the Jeffco.  Golden took over third place with their 3-0 win over Standley Lake.
  • Niwot stayed one game back of Longmont in the Northern with a 3-0 home win over Greeley Central.
  • Windsor collects four set win over Holy Family in a battle of Tri Valley unbeatens.  The win gives the Wizards the championship and leaves Holy Family alone in second.
  • Classical Academy outlasted Woodland Park in five sets on Thursday.  Both teams entered the game without a conference loss but TCA now remains tied with Mesa Ridge atop the standings.
  • Battle Mountain took over third place in the Western Slope with their extended five-set win over Eagle Valley on Thursday.  Both clubs left the court with three league losses but since the Huskies won both regular season contests, they have the tiebreaker.   Both clubs are one game back of co-leaders Palisade and Steamboat Springs who square off this Saturday.
  • Weld Central remained tied with Englewood atop the Colorado 7 with their 3-1 win at Conifer.

CLASS 5A

  • Fort Collins, Loveland and Rocky Mountain all picked up wins on Thursday night so the Lambkins and Indians remain tied for second (one loss) with Rocky Mountain in fourth (two losses).
  • Brighton kept a share of the East Metro lead by sweeping Thornton.  The Bulldogs opened the night tied with Rangeview & Prairie View in first.  Prairie View kept pace with 3-0 win over Hinkley.
  • Pine Creek outlasted Rampart in five sets on Thursday and that result leaves Doherty alone atop the Colorado Springs Metro standings.  Pine Creek and Rampart share second.
  • Valor Christian kept the top spot in the Jeffco with an easy 3-0 win over Pomona.
  • Fruita Monument officially clinched another SWL title with a five-set win over Durango.
