The Fowler Tournament and a big battle inside the 3A Patriot conference top the agenda for the Saturday Top 10 Volleyball schedule.  Meeker and Stratton/Liberty could also get challenged today.

Fowler is ranked 7th in Class 2A and welcomes in a field that includes #5 Limon from 2A and #6 Lamar from Class 3A.  Sargent could also finish in the top three of the 2A Southern Peaks so each game could be a tight battle.  RPI wise, Fowler is 11th and Limon 16th in Class 2A so both could use a boost as they try to reach the top eight and host a regional event.  Sargent is 22nd and considered a playoff bubble team right now.  Lamar is coming off a dominating win over Colorado Springs Christian that pushed them to 2nd in Class 3A RPI.

Over in the Patriot, the match between University and Sterling is for league positioning and improving the post-season placement.  Both the 3rd ranked Bulldogs and 4th ranked Tigers have a loss to first place Eaton so their league championship hopes are slim.  Sterling is in the tougher spot of the two as they fell to Resurrection Christian inside the conference.  But for the playoffs, University was fourth and Sterling sixth in our latest 3A combined volleyball rankings released before matches on Friday.

#5 Stratton/Liberty (1A) moved close to clinching the 2A/1A Union Pacific crown by beating Byers on Thursday night.   They also have a win over Limon so the Knighted Eagles are in the drivers’ seat at this point.  They host a very good McClave team that is 8-1 on the season with a single loss to highly ranked Kit Carson.

Also in Class 1A, #2 Simla and #7 Sangre De Cristo could get tested against quality 2A foes in Peyton and Hoehne.

#3 Meeker (2A) finishes off a busy and rugged week with two road matches against Hotchkiss and Grand Valley.  The Cowboys rallied past Vail Mountain 3-2 on Thursday night and then swept Olathe 3-0 and get two more matches in before returning home later tonight.

Outside the rankings, we found three matches of note including a nice pairing of Falcon and Liberty in the big school rankings.  Both clubs are 6-1 on the season with Liberty scoring a huge win over #1 Palmer Ridge (4A) earlier this week.  The Bears were without a key setter in that one but it was still a nice victory for the Lancers who are 10th in our 5A overall rankings.

In Class 3A, Eagle Ridge Academy looks for another key win inside the Colorado race.  They downed Weld Central earlier this week to remain tied with Skyview atop the standings.  Both are unbeaten.  Today they face Fort Lupton who is one of three third place teams with one loss apiece.  They’re 5-3 overall.

And there’s a nice get together in Hugo where the Pirates entertain both Otis and La Veta in a three-team triangular.  Results are important to all three clubs; Otis is 14th in combined rankings, Genoa Hugo 16th and La Veta could use a couple of wins to climb closer to the top 24.  They are not in the top 30 entering the triangular.

Below is the schedule for Saturday.  Colorado Preps will post finals as they become available.  Results can be sent to us by text to 970.380.7737.
