Volleyball fans are treated to a very attractive Top 10 schedule on Thursday night. Several top 10 matchups are on the slate and many of them have important conference implications.
in Class 1A, #4 Prairie and #6 Briggsdale collide for a share of first place in the North Central. The two are tied with #5 Fleming for the top spot and the Wildcats should get by Peetz on the road this evening. Prairie beat Briggsdale in four sets earlier in the year.
#3 Merino also has a tough test with #4 Wiggins from Class 2A. The winner gains sole possession of the Lower Platte lead as both are unbeaten in the conference.
There’s also a nice matchup of #2 Kit Carson (1A) and Yuma. Both are defending state champions and even though the Indians are rebuilding a bit, they will be a tough out for the Wildcats.
The most important match in 3A is found outside the Top 10 as Valley and University collide in the Patriot. It’s a bit unusual to have these teams outside the rankings but they both remain unbeaten and tied with Sterling and Eaton atop the conference standings.
Up in Class 4A, #1 Discovery Canyon looks to rebound from a loss to #9 Coronado by facing #7 Palmer Ridge on the road. It’s the Pikes Peak opener for both teams and eventually could be for the conference championship. The two will battle #5 Lewis Palmer and tradition rich Cheyenne Mountain in that loaded conference.
In the big school ranks, #2 Cherokee Trail and #9 Cherry Creek face off inside the Centennial. The Bruins have already lost twice in league play so they may be reduced to the role of spoiler this year. The Cougars are tied with Grandview and Arapahoe in the top spot.
