Wednesday is a lighter girls basketball schedule throughout Colorado but there are still four very important games with all based in the largest two classifications.

4A – Green Mountain vs Evergreen:  The Rams are 4-0 in the Jeffco and Evergreen 3-0 so the winner will take over sole possession of first place.  It’s the first of two meetings as they will clash again on February 21st.  The Rams (12-1) have the much better overall record and they’ll carry a seven game winning streak into the game.   Freshman Jayda Maves paces Green Mountain with 11.2 points per game with sophomore Avery Oaster (9.2) next in line.  Evergreen, which last two of their last three, is also led in scoring by a freshman as Jameson Mott drops in nearly 14 per game.  Senior Hayley Dillon is next with 9.8 points and 7.7 rebounds.
4A – Air Academy at Cheyenne Mountain:  Air Academy has spent much of the season in the top 10 statewide but they’ve split their first four league games leaving them two games back of PPAC leaders Falcon and Sand Creek.  Cheyenne Mountain sits alone in third at 3-1 and they need a win to stay within range of the Falcons and Scorpions.  The Indians are coming off a 40-39 win over Palmer Ridge last week as Selena Vargas tallied 15 points.  Air Academy snapped a two game skid with their 65-20 win over Discovery Canyon last week.  Kylee Blacksten led the way with 25 points and seven rebounds.
4A/5A – Mullen at Cherokee Trail: The Mustangs and Cougars are a combined 19-7 but they’ve not fared that well against the top teams in the rugged Centennial conference.  Cherokee Trail lost to Cherry Creek by 41 points and Grandview by 22.  Mullen has not played Grandview but came up short to Cherry Creek by 20 points last week.  Despite that loss they remain the #1 team in Class 4A.  The Mustangs are 3-1 and alone in third in the conference with the Cougars a game and one spot back.
5A – Westminster at Rangeview:  Westminster (2-0) is one of four remaining unbeatens in the EMAC so the Wolves need a win to keep pace with the likes of Prairie View, Vista Peak and Thornton.  Rangeview (1-1) was in that first team logjam but fell off with a 48-45 loss to Thornton last week.  That loss snapped a four game winning streak.  Westminster has a non-league win over Thornton (39-36) and that win started their current four game win streak.
