36 of the 50 ranked teams in the latest volleyball polls are in action Thursday night but only two matchups pit such clubs on the same floor.  The first is a biggie inside the 3A Patriot #2 University goes to #3 Eaton and the second is an interesting non-conference battle between #8 DeBeque (1A) against #10 Cedaredge (3A).
For Eaton and University, it’s the first meeting of the two rivals since the Reds beat the Bulldogs in the state semifinals last year on their way to a fifth consecutive state championship.  The two enter the match tied with Platte Valley and Sterling as league unbeatens in the Patriot.
DeBeque is unbeaten on the season but their match with 3A Cedaredge will be their most difficult challenge to date.  Cedaredge is 11-1 on the season with a lone loss to Meeker on September 1st.  DeBeque is tied with Meeker for the 2A Western Slope lead and will face the Cowboys in the final week of the season.
There are two interesting matchups inside the 2A Mile High conference as #4 Denver Christian meets Dayspring Christian and #7 Union Colony Prep hosts defending state champion Lyons.  Denver Christian and Union Colony share the conference lead but Lyons is a game back and coming off a tremendous five-set win over Dawson earlier this week.
In the big school ranks, key matches include #5 Fort Collins against Loveland in the 5A Front Range and #7 Eaglecrest meets Grandview for league positioning in the 5A Centennial.  In Class 4A, Tri Valley league unbeatens #8 Holy Family and Frederick collide in the first of two meetings.
