Conference Rundown

Football RPI standings were updated again this morning at 8:30 with no changes in the top 16 for Classes 2A, 1A and eight-man.  Official pairings will be released later this morning but we wanted to layout the bracket if the committees going strictly with the RPI standings.

Remember that league champions earn a top eight seed and home game regardless of where they stand in the RPI.

Class 2A could easily see the bracket go this way as it lays out very nicely but the committee could decide to avoid Eaton and Sterling in the first round since they played in the regular season.  So Sterling could be swapped with Resurrection Christian or Eaton could be moved ahead of Faith Christian by one spot.  We expect the prior to happen.

In Class 1A, I doubt the committee will send Wray all the way to Meeker for a first round game so expect some shuffling in the lowest three of four seeds.  I expect Cornerstone Christian or Platte Canyon to make that trip.

Eight man will see some changes as well as the committee will not pair Caliche with Sedgwick County since they’re from the same conference and we don’t expect Soroco to visit Hoehne because of travel concerns.  Merino and McClave also met in the regular season so that could be altered as well.

Even so, the brackets below represent seeding by RPI exclusively.

  1. There’s also a story in the 3A bracket as Pueblo East might get into the playoffs if they award them a spot as league Champs. I think bumping the 16 seed, who clearly beat better teams is a bad idea and they should go strictly RPI standings.

    • Pueblo East is in the playoffs as league champions. That’s a guaranteed playoff berth in every classification. So yes they could bump a “top 16” team from the bracket if they finish outside the top 16 as well. Has happened before.
