With regional volleyball wrapped up, attention now turns to the state volleyball tournament.  The next step is the official release of the state volleyball pairings by CHSAA on Monday but before that announcement, Colorado Preps will try their hand at projecting the pairings.

According to the volleyball playoff bulletin, the seeding criteria rankings released before regionals will also be used to place teams in the state tournament bracket.  So it appears the seeds won’t change much if any in laying out the eight team pairings.

With that in mind, here’s our projections for pairings at the state tournament.  Eight teams in each class and a single elimination bracket that will be played out over two days May 12-13th at World Arena in Colorado Springs.  Please note these pairings are NOT OFFICIAL and used for our projection purposes only.

#3 Merino vs #6 Briggsdale

CLASS 2A

#1 Wiggins vs #8 Yuma

#4 Fowler vs #5 Vail Christian

#2 Denver Christian vs #7 Holyoke

#3 Sedgwick County vs #6 Dayspring Christian

CLASS 3A

#3 Sterling vs #6 Lutheran

CLASS 4A

#3 Palisade vs #6 Palmer Ridge

CLASS 5A

#1 Mountain Vista vs #8 Grandview

#4 Columbine vs #5 Cherry Creek

#2 Rampart vs #7 Legend

#3 Ralston Valley vs #6 Chatfield

NOTES:  If CHSAA chooses to prevent conference matchups in the state quarterfinals, there could be a couple of changes.  In Class 5A, Chatfield and Legend could exchange the sixth and seventh seeds to prevent Chatfield from meeting Ralston Valley in round one.  In Class 4A, Discovery Canyon could flip seeds with Classical Academy to prevent the Thunder from playing league rival Cheyenne Mountain the state opener.  And in Class 3A, Prospect Ridge could drop to eighth and Resurrection Christian moved to seventh to prevent a Patriot league pairing between the Cougars and Eaton.  Class 2A could provide some challenges as four teams from the Lower Platte league are in the eight team field.  Flipping Holyoke and Yuma at #7 and #8 does not alleviate a league matchup with top seeded Wiggins.  Dayspring Christian could be added to the mix but that also brings Sedgwick County into the discussion and they’re also a Lower Platte league club.  If the committee eliminates league pairings, the bracket could appear as below:

  • #1 Wiggins vs #8 Dayspring Christian
  • #4 Fowler vs #5 Holyoke
  • #2 Denver Christian #7 Yuma
  • #3 Sedgwick County vs #6 Vail Christian
